Moananui Ocean Festival About Us:
Fishing has been a long-standing tradition for all the people of the world, but mainly for the people who live near the sea. Fishing has been a main source of food for island people and through countless generations, fishing traditions, techniques, styles, places, histories, stories, as well as the tall tales that have been passed down. The ocean is an integral part of life for the Kanaka Maoli. We are the ocean, the seafarers, the fisherman, and all that it entails. The Moananui Ocean Festival honors and nurtures this relationship we have with the Moana - Ocean and its practices.
